About Freixenet
Freixenet is the world's largest producer of traditional method sparkling wine and the largest exporter of Spanish Cava. Founded in 1914 in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Barcelona, the company represents over a century of sparkling wine excellence. The Freixenet story began with the union of two winemaking families: the Ferrer family, owners of La Freixeneda estate since the 12th century, and the Sala family, founders of Casa Sala in 1861. When Dolores Sala Vivé married Pedro Ferrer Bosch in 1911, the company took Pedro's childhood nickname 'Freixenet' as its name, and they began bottling cava under this brand from 1914. After overcoming challenges including the Spanish Civil War, Freixenet launched Carta Nevada in 1941, followed by their iconic Cordón Negro in 1974. The distinctive frosted black bottle became internationally recognised and established Freixenet as a global brand. By 1985, Freixenet became the world leader in the cava market. Today, the Freixenet Group operates 18 wineries across 7 countries on 3 continents, including operations in the USA (Gloria Ferrer), Australia, France (Henri Abelé Champagne), Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. UK products include their 0.0% Alcohol Free Sparkling for celebrations without alcohol, and Italian Sparkling Rosé expanding beyond traditional cava.
