About Gerard Bertrand
Gérard Bertrand is the celebrated French winemaker known as the "Prince of Languedoc" who has become the world's largest producer of biodynamic wines. With 850 hectares across 16 converted wineries and a fourth-generation family heritage, Bertrand has elevated South of France wines from mass-market obscurity to world-beating excellence. The journey began in 1975 at Château de Villemajou in Corbières, where young Gérard carried out his first harvest. After twelve years learning alongside his father Georges, he took over the family business in 1987 following his father's accidental death. Since then, he has expanded to iconic estates including Château l'Hospitalet, Domaine de l'Aigle, and the prestigious Clos d'Ora. Bertrand's commitment to biodynamic viticulture since 2002 has been rewarded with extraordinary recognition. His Château L'Hospitalet Grand Vin Rouge 2017 was named Best Red Wine in the World at the International Wine Challenge, while he was crowned IWC Red Winemaker of the Year and Wine Enthusiast's European Winery of the Year in 2012.
