About Hawaiian Tropic
Hawaiian Tropic is the iconic American suncare brand founded in 1969 by Ron Rice in Daytona Beach, Florida. A former high school chemistry teacher and part-time lifeguard, Rice created the original suntan oil in his garage with just $500 after being inspired by a trip to Hawaii. He tested his formula on local surfers until he perfected a non-greasy, pleasantly scented product that would become beloved worldwide. The brand grew to become the largest private manufacturer of sun care products in the United States, famous for its tropical coconut fragrance and beach-vacation feeling. In 2007, Ron Rice sold Hawaiian Tropic to Playtex Products for $83 million. That same year, Playtex was acquired by Energizer Holdings, which spun off its personal care division in 2015 to create Edgewell Personal Care - Hawaiian Tropic's current owner alongside sister brand Banana Boat. Today's Hawaiian Tropic range includes the Silk Hydration collection with moisturising ribbons, Protective Dry Oil sprays for a non-greasy finish, Glowing Protection face creams, and luxurious after-sun products. The brand remains synonymous with the smell and feel of tropical holidays. Founder Ron Rice passed away in 2022 aged 81. Compare Hawaiian Tropic prices at UK supermarkets on Grocefully.
