About Lays
Lay's is the world's best-selling potato chip brand, with a rich history dating back to 1932 when salesman Herman Lay began selling chips from his Model A car during the Great Depression. By 1938, Lay had purchased and renamed the Barrett Food Company in Atlanta, building H.W. Lay & Company into America's largest potato chip manufacturer with over 1,000 employees by 1956. In 1961, Lay's merged with Charles Doolin's Frito Company to form Frito-Lay, combining iconic brands including Lay's, Fritos, Cheetos, and Ruffles. The landmark 1965 merger with Pepsi-Cola created PepsiCo, with Herman Lay serving as chairman until 1971. That same year, Lay's became the first potato chip brand sold nationwide across all 50 US states. Today, Frito-Lay generates about half of PepsiCo's revenues and two-thirds of its profits, making Lay's one of the most valuable snack brands globally. In the UK, Lay's offers international flavours like Barbecue and Green Onion at selected retailers. Compare Lay's prices at Grocefully to find the best deals on these classic American potato chips.
