About Lees
Lees of Scotland is a beloved Scottish confectionery brand founded in 1931 by John Justice Lees, the son of a grocer, at their factory in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The company has become synonymous with iconic Scottish treats that have delighted generations, from everyday indulgences to celebratory occasions. Lees is best known for their signature Snowballs - fluffy mallow centres wrapped in chocolate and generously dusted with coconut. The macaroon bar, another Lees original, was famously created by accident when John Lees was attempting to produce a smooth chocolate fondant. Today, snowballs remain their bestselling product line, alongside teacakes that have become integral to Scottish confectionery culture. In 1982, Lees expanded into meringue manufacture through Heather Cameron Foods, and has since grown to become the UK's market leader in meringue production. The range includes meringues with Dark Belgian Chocolate and products for Asda's own-label Extra Special range. Now part of Finsbury Food Group following a £5.7m acquisition, Lees employs over 200 staff and continues manufacturing in Coatbridge.
