About Lil Lets
Lil-Lets is a British feminine hygiene brand founded in 1954 by Southalls of Birmingham, now based in Solihull. The company is the only brand to cross all sectors of the feminine hygiene market - tampons, pads, pantyliners, and intimate care. The original tampon design was created with Dr. Judith Esser-Mittag, a female gynaecologist, and expands widthways for improved comfort. In 1958, Southalls was acquired by Smith & Nephew and incorporated into their Sanitary Protection Division. Since 2000, two management buyouts have restructured the business. In 2007, Lil-Lets launched sanitary pads, and in 2008 introduced compact applicator tampons competing with market leader Tampax. The brand's signature SmartFit™ technology differentiates Lil-Lets tampons from competitors - instead of expanding lengthways like most tampons, they expand all the way round to fit the body's natural shape, providing better comfort, fit, and leak protection. Non-applicator tampons contain up to 96% less plastic than leading compact applicator ranges. The organic range uses 100% certified organic cotton, certified by the UK Soil Association according to Global Organic Textile Standards. Organic pads are plastic-free and biodegradable, with wrappers and back sheets made from corn starch. All Lil-Lets products are chlorine-free. The Teens range features specially designed petite pads that are smaller, narrower, breathable, and comfortable - perfect for younger users. Lil-Lets also runs educational programmes teaching young girls about menstruation. In 2021, Lil-Lets announced removal of plastic applicators and launch of a reusable tampon applicator, saving over 11 tonnes of plastic annually.
