About Maltesers
Maltesers are an iconic British chocolate confectionery manufactured by Mars Inc., first launched in 1937. Created by American Forrest Mars Sr. at the Mars factory in Slough in 1936, they consist of a spheroid malted milk centre surrounded by milk chocolate. Originally described as "energy balls" and marketed to slimming women, Maltesers were the second product made in the UK by Mars - following the Mars bar invented in 1932. Forrest Mars began his company on 17th May 1932 in Slough, Berkshire with limited funds, second-hand equipment, and just four employees. The Slough factory remains the central hub for the brand, with Mars UK headquarters still located there today. The first television advert appeared in 1959, and the signature red packaging was introduced in 1978. The product range includes classic Maltesers in various packaging formats from fun-size bags to large plastic buckets, sharing bags, treat-size packs, and gift boxes. Maltesers Buttons are button-shaped chocolates with tiny malt balls within, available in Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, and Orange Chocolate flavours. Maltesers Teasers, launched in March 2013, feature crunchy miniature honeycomb pieces floating in creamy milk chocolate in bar format. Maltesers Truffles combine smooth chocolate with mini malty balls for the signature crunch. Seasonal products include MaltEaster Bunnies (since 2010) with Orange and White Chocolate variants, and Merryteaser Reindeer for Christmas alongside White Chocolate Maltesers. Famous slogans include "The lighter way to enjoy chocolate" (current), "The chocolates with the less fattening centre," "No ordinary chocolate," and "Nothing pleases like Maltesers." Maltesers sit alongside Galaxy, Minstrels, and Revels under the Mars UK umbrella.
