About Morinaga
Morinaga & Company is Japan's first modern candy company, founded in Tokyo in 1899 by Taichiro Morinaga. After spending eleven years studying candy-making in America, Morinaga pioneered Western-style confectionery in Japan and was the first to mass-produce chocolates in the country. The company's most famous creation is Hi-Chew, the intensely fruity chewy candy launched in 1975. Hi-Chew's origins trace to 1931's Chewlets, created to solve a cultural problem: Morinaga wanted to make chewable candy that could be swallowed, avoiding the Japanese taboo of taking food from one's mouth. Over 170 flavours have been created since. Hi-Chew has become a global phenomenon, popular with American baseball players and now sold across the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and beyond. The candy's unique chewy texture and bursting fruit flavours have made it a cult favourite among sweet lovers worldwide.
