About Mount Rozier
Mount Rozier is a distinguished boutique winery located in the Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa's Western Cape, uniquely nestled within a natural amphitheatre in the Schapenberg Hills of Somerset West. Purchased by the Gabb family in 2009, the estate holds remarkable historical significance - it formed part of Myrtle Grove where Professor Perold planted the first ever commercial Pinotage vineyards in 1941, making it pivotal to South African wine heritage. The estate's origins trace back to the turn of the 19th century when it was founded by Annie Rozier, a flower merchant who picked wildflowers in the surrounding hills and famously produced natural remedies and medicines for the local community. Today, dynamic winemaker Leon Esterhuizen meticulously sources top quality grapes from across the Western Cape, creating cool climate, elegant wines with zero compromise on quality that are intricate and true to their terroir. Mount Rozier operates a 350-ton solar-powered winery under certified sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking practices, reflecting their philosophy to intervene as little as possible in the winemaking process. The estate includes 30 hectares of land dedicated to conservation of indigenous plant and animal life, earning them the prestigious World Wildlife Fund Conservation Champions accolade. This commitment makes Mount Rozier a buzzing hotbed of birds, mammals, and fynbos native to the region. British wine enthusiasts appreciate Mount Rozier's fruit-forward, easy-drinking wines that benefit from cooling coastal breezes and the contrast between warm days and cool evenings. Their range includes excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with the Reserve range showcasing the best expressions of Stellenbosch terroir.
