About Mountain Warehouse
Mountain Warehouse is Britain's largest outdoor retailer, founded in 1997 by entrepreneur Mark Neale. Originally established as the retail partner of Karrimor International, the brand opened its first store in Swindon with a focus on affordable, quality outdoor clothing and equipment. After the stores were rebranded from Karrimor to Mountain Warehouse, Neale built the company into an outdoor retail empire. Through strategic ownership changes and management buyouts, Neale has maintained control of the business, personally owning 85% today. A key turning point came when Mountain Warehouse increased its own-brand product offering from 5% to 80%, allowing the company to deliver quality outdoor gear at competitive prices by cutting out middlemen and controlling the supply chain. Today, Mountain Warehouse operates over 400 stores across the UK, Europe, North America, and New Zealand, serving more than 4 million outdoor enthusiasts annually. In 2024, the company acquired US retailer Eastern Mountain Sports for $10 million, expanding its North American presence. The brand is known for making outdoor activities accessible to families and beginners with functional, durable products at honest prices. UK supermarkets offer a selection of Mountain Warehouse outdoor equipment including folding camping chairs, rucksacks and backpacks ranging from 12L day bags to 80L trekking packs, camping mats, and travel accessories. These provide convenient access to trusted outdoor gear whilst doing your regular shopping.
