About Nairns
Nairn's is a proudly Scottish oatcake and biscuit brand with roots stretching back to 1896 when John and Sarah Nairn opened a small bakery in Strathaven. Today, Nairn's remains independently owned and is the largest producer of oatcakes in the UK, with products exported to over 30 countries worldwide. Based in Edinburgh, the company has been making oatcakes at its famous Peffermill site since 1935—over 80 years of baking expertise. The devoted team, sometimes spanning generations of local families, are proud guardians of the recipes and mixing techniques. Nairn's sources the finest wholegrain oats from the Scottish Borders through trusted relationships with farmers and millers, with John Hogarth Ltd of Kelso handling milling for over 40 years. In 2016, Nairn's invested £6.5 million to open a state-of-the-art dedicated gluten-free bakery, making them one of the UK's leading and most trusted gluten-free brands. The gluten-free oats come from specialist British farms that grow oats completely separately, taking extraordinary lengths to avoid wheat or barley contamination in fields and equipment. The product range includes traditional rough and fine milled oatcakes, gluten-free oatcakes, oat biscuits (with 35% less sugar than average sweet biscuits), chocolate chip oat biscuits, snackers in savoury flavours (cheese, salt & vinegar), and cereals. Key flavours include stem ginger, coconut & chia, fruit & seed, and dark chocolate chip. All products combine fibre and wholegrain oats with natural ingredients.
