About Penderyn
Penderyn is Wales' pioneering whisky distillery, reviving the art of Welsh whisky production after a hiatus of over 100 years. Founded in 1998 by a group of friends determined to represent Wales on the world whisky stage, the distillery produced its first spirit in September 2000 and launched its inaugural single malt on St David's Day, 1st March 2004. Today, Penderyn is celebrated globally as a leader in World Whisky. Located in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, Penderyn uses abundant pure spring water and a unique copper single-pot still that produces spirit at an exceptionally high 92% ABV. The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace and Evan Williams before finishing in Portuguese Madeira wine casks. This distinctive process creates Penderyn's signature light and fruity flavour profile with notes of vanilla and oak. The distillery has expanded significantly since its origins, now operating three Welsh locations: the original Penderyn HQ in the Brecon Beacons (established 2000), a second distillery in Llandudno (opened May 2021), and a third at Swansea Copperworks (opened June 2023). All offer distillery tours, masterclasses, and on-site shops, making Penderyn a must-visit for whisky enthusiasts exploring Wales. Penderyn's award-winning range includes several expressions: Madeira Finish (their signature), Peated, Sherrywood, and Portwood. Multiple Gold medals at the International Wine and Spirits Competition and World Whisky Awards confirm Penderyn's place among the world's finest single malts. For those seeking quality Welsh whisky with genuine provenance, Penderyn is the definitive choice.
