About Peters
Peter's is a beloved Welsh pastry brand with roots stretching back to the 1950s when Stan Thomas founded 'Thomas' Pies' in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. Spotting opportunity as post-war meat rationing ended, Stan built a business that grew to supply chip shops and communities across the Welsh Valleys. His sons, Stanley Thomas (later Sir Stanley Thomas OBE) and Peter Thomas, rebranded as Peter's. In 1970, the Thomas family moved operations to Bedwas, Caerphilly, and in 1976 built a new factory at Bedwas House Industrial Estate to enable distribution via the M4 motorway to London and beyond. The business was sold to Grand Metropolitan for over £95 million in 1988 but has continued to grow under various ownership, expanding its presence in retail and foodservice. Today, Peter's Food Service is one of Wales's largest employers with around 700 staff, producing over 3 million pastries every week. The Bedwas bakery manufactures pies, pasties, slices, sausage rolls, sausages, and saveloys. Recent innovations include the EPIC Rolls range and partnerships with major brands including Quorn, Heinz, Sharwoods, and Bisto for co-branded products. British shoppers can find Peter's products at UK supermarkets including Iceland, Ocado, and Morrisons. Classic favourites include minced beef & onion pies, steak & kidney pies, corned beef pasties, and jumbo sausage rolls - all baked in Wales using the expertise developed over seven decades of British pastry making.
