About Russell Hobbs
Russell Hobbs is a British manufacturer of household appliances founded in 1952 by William "Bill" Russell and Peter Hobbs in Croydon, Surrey. The company revolutionised the kitchen appliance industry by launching the first automatic coffee percolator (CP1) in 1952 and the first self-switching automatic kettle (K1) in 1955 - innovations that made Russell Hobbs the primary kettle maker in the United Kingdom. Bill Russell and Peter Hobbs both previously worked at Morphy Richards before forming their own company. Bill focused on design and engineering whilst Peter handled marketing and sales. Their K2 kettle, introduced in 1960, was manufactured for 30 years and became possibly the company's best-known product. In 1972, Russell Hobbs produced the world's first all-plastic kettle, "The Futura". Throughout its long history spanning over 65 years, Russell Hobbs has consistently ranked as the number one brand in the UK for kettles and toasters, with an estimated 9 out of 10 British consumers recognising the brand. The company grew to become the leading kettle maker globally and the UK's number one for coffee makers and toasters. The company has changed ownership several times: sold to Tube Investments in 1962, then Polly Peck International in 1986, acquired by Pifco Holdings in 1991, purchased by Salton in 2001, and finally Spectrum Brands Inc. in 2010. Today Russell Hobbs operates as part of Spectrum Brands (UK) Ltd. Current product ranges include the Inspire, Structure, Honeycomb, Retro, and Luna collections, offering kettles, toasters, air fryers, microwaves, coffee makers, and more. Their Satisfry Air Fryers claim to save up to 68% energy compared to conventional ovens. Products are available in various colours and styles, from 2-slice to 4-slice toasters and rapid to quiet boil kettles.
