About Santa Tresa
Santa Tresa is a distinguished organic wine estate from the historic Vittoria region of southeast Sicily, producing some of the island's most celebrated wines from vineyards dating back to 1697. The estate sits at approximately 240 metres above sea level, benefiting from the unique terroir that has made this corner of Sicily famous for exceptional wine production. The modern chapter of Santa Tresa began in 2002 when siblings Stefano and Marina Girelli purchased the ancient estate with a vision to restore it to its former glory. Their mission was clear: to produce high-quality, authentic, certified organic wines that express the true character of Sicily's unique grape varieties. The estate encompasses 50 hectares, with 39 planted to vines, all cultivated under strict organic and low-intervention principles. Santa Tresa's commitment to sustainability goes beyond standard organic certification - they use no pesticides whatsoever, not even organic ones. Vineyard management relies on only minimal amounts of sulphur and copper. In place of animal manure, the estate grows its own fava beans (Favino) to fertilise the vines, making these wines suitable for vegans. Santa Tresa holds a special place in Sicilian wine history as one of the first two estates to produce Cerasuolo di Vittoria back in 1950. This distinction is significant because Cerasuolo di Vittoria remains Sicily's only DOCG wine - the highest classification in Italian wine law. Made from a blend of indigenous Frappato and Nero d'Avola grapes, this wine showcases the best of Sicilian viticulture. Under the guidance of renowned consultant winemaker Stefano Chioccioli, Santa Tresa has earned recognition from Wine Enthusiast and awards at the Falstaff Sparkling 2025 tasting. Their portfolio includes the Rina Russa Frappato, Grillo Viognier blends, and their signature Cerasuolo di Vittoria. UK shoppers can find Santa Tresa organic wines at Tesco and Ocado, offering accessible prices for premium Sicilian organics.
