About Sensodyne
Sensodyne is the world's leading sensitivity toothpaste brand and the number one dentist-recommended toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Originally developed by Block Drug Company (founded 1907), Sensodyne launched in 1961 as the first toothpaste specifically designed to help people with tooth sensitivity, using a strontium chloride formulation. The brand has continuously innovated over six decades: introducing potassium nitrate (a mild local sedative) in 1980, fluoride-enhanced formulas, and NovaMin technology in 2011 for remineralising sensitive areas. SmithKline Beecham acquired Block Drug for $1.24 billion in 2000, integrating Sensodyne alongside Aquafresh in their oral care portfolio. Following the SmithKline Beecham and Glaxo Wellcome merger to form GSK in 2001, Sensodyne expanded globally to over 80 countries. In July 2022, Sensodyne became part of Haleon—a British multinational consumer healthcare company created as a corporate spin-off from GSK and listed on the London Stock Exchange as a FTSE 100 component. Haleon also owns Aquafresh, Parodontax, Panadol and Centrum. Today's UK Sensodyne range includes Repair & Protect (NovaMin technology), Rapid Relief, Complete Protection, Fresh Mint, Pronamel (enamel protection) and Sensitivity & Gum for dual concerns. All products are clinically proven to provide relief from tooth sensitivity.
