About Tamiya

Tamiya is a legendary Japanese model kit manufacturer founded in 1946 by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka, Japan. What began as a wooden model company has grown into one of the world's most respected names in plastic model kits and radio-controlled vehicles. The Tamiya catalogue now spans over 5,000 items including static plastic models, R/C cars, Mini 4WD racers, paints, and tools, serving hobbyists from beginners to professional modellers worldwide. The company's transition from wooden to plastic models began in the mid-1950s when imported plastic kits started impacting wooden model sales. In 1959, Tamiya produced their first plastic model - the Japanese battleship Yamato - marking the beginning of their plastic modelling legacy. The company's commitment to precision and accuracy became legendary. To create an authentic Porsche 911 model, Tamiya famously purchased a full-size car and dismantled it in-house to study every detail, later requiring Porsche Japan technicians to reassemble it. Tamiya's entry into radio-controlled models came almost by accident. During a lunch break in the 1970s, company president Shunsaku Tamiya spotted a designer driving a modified Tamiya F1 kit fitted with battery-electric drive. This sparked the development of their RC division, culminating in the 1976 release of the Porsche 934 Turbo RSR - Tamiya's first radio-controlled model. The RC range has since become iconic in the hobby industry. Several Tamiya RC models achieved legendary status. The Grasshopper (1984) was an affordable, rugged two-wheel-drive off-road buggy that became the ideal entry point for first-time hobbyists. The Bruiser (1985) featured a working three-speed radio-controlled transmission and realistic Toyota Hilux body, becoming one of the most collectible Tamiya models ever produced. The Blackfoot monster truck (1986) is credited with driving significant growth in the RC hobby during the late 1980s. Tamiya's UK presence began in 1966 when David Binger of toy wholesaler Richard Kohnstamm Ltd (RIKO) spotted Tamiya kits during a US trip and travelled to Japan to meet Shunsaku Tamiya. This meeting established a long and successful relationship that introduced Tamiya to British and European markets. Today, Hobby Company Ltd, led by Pete Binger (David's son), continues as the official UK importer of Tamiya products. The Tamiya product range encompasses multiple categories. Static plastic models cover military vehicles, aircraft, cars, motorcycles, ships, and figures across various scales. RC models include on-road racing cars, off-road buggies and trucks, rally cars, and semi-truck models. Mini 4WD offers smaller-scale racing. The Tamiya paint range provides acrylic and enamel paints specifically formulated for plastic models, while their tools and accessories support all aspects of the modelling hobby. Tamiya is renowned for innovations including realistic scale bodies, four-wheel independent suspension systems, and exceptional build quality. Their clear instructions and superb fit-and-finish make kits accessible to beginners while satisfying experienced modellers. UK stockists include specialist hobby shops, online retailers like Jadlam Racing Models and Elite Models Online, and some supermarkets and general retailers carrying entry-level products. Using Grocefully to compare Tamiya prices across retailers ensures you find the best deals on these premium hobby products.

FAQs

Grocefully is a smart grocery shopping app that automatically compares prices across all major UK supermarkets (Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, etc.) and helps you buy from the cheapest stores. We handle the complexity of split orders so you save money without any extra effort.

Our users save an average of 25-30% on their total grocery bill. For a typical £100 weekly shop, that's £20-25 in savings even after our 5% service fee. The exact amount depends on your shopping habits and the products you buy.

We currently support Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose, and Iceland. We're constantly adding new stores and will notify you when more become available.

Grocefully is available wherever the supported supermarkets deliver. Simply enter your postcode when you sign up to check availability in your area.

Our AI scans real-time prices from all supported supermarkets every time you shop. It finds exact matches or suitable alternatives for each item on your list, then automatically selects the cheapest option while considering delivery fees and minimum order requirements.

You can set brand preferences for any item. If you prefer specific brands, Grocefully will only compare prices for those brands. You can also allow substitutions for some items while keeping others fixed.

Grocefully shows you available delivery slots from each store and helps coordinate them. We optimize to get you the most convenient delivery times while maintaining the best prices.

Yes! You can link your loyalty cards from each supermarket and continue earning points on all your purchases. We'll automatically apply any available discounts.

We charge a simple 5% service fee on your total order value. For example, if your groceries cost £100, you'll pay £5 as a service fee. This covers our costs for finding you the best prices, handling multiple orders, and providing customer support.

Our users save an average of 25-30% per shop. Even after the 5% service fee, you're still saving 20-25% on average. For a £100 shop, you'd save £25-30 and pay £5 in fees, netting you £20-25 in savings!

The service fee is automatically calculated and shown before you complete your order. It's added to your total, so you only make one payment. No hidden charges or surprises.

Yes! Grocefully is completely free to download and use. You only pay the 5% service fee when you place an order. Browse, compare prices, and create shopping lists as much as you want without any charges.

No hidden fees! You pay the grocery prices (same as shopping directly), the stores' delivery fees (if any), and our 5% service fee. That's it. We believe in complete transparency.

If you're not happy with your savings, contact our support team. We'll review your order and if we didn't save you money (after accounting for our fee), we'll refund the service fee. Your satisfaction is our priority.

Yes, you can modify orders up until the supermarket's cut-off time (usually a few hours before delivery). Any changes are automatically synced across all your orders.

If an item is out of stock, we'll automatically find the next cheapest option from another store or suggest a suitable replacement. You can set preferences for how you want us to handle substitutions.

Refunds are processed according to each supermarket's policy. If you're not satisfied with your savings, contact our support team - we offer a money-back guarantee on our service fee.

Our customer support team is here to help resolve any issues. We work directly with the supermarkets to ensure quick resolution of any problems.
