About Taylors Eye Witness
Taylor's Eye Witness is one of Britain's oldest and most respected cutlery brands, founded in 1820 by John Taylor in Sheffield - the ancestral home of British cutlery. In 1838, Taylor registered the distinctive 'Eye Witness' trademark featuring an all-seeing eye, reportedly inspired by Shakespeare's Henry IV. The company is one of the last remaining Sheffield knife makers keeping the city's proud 'Little Mesters' cutlery tradition alive. The company's history spans over two centuries of British manufacturing excellence. In 1852, Taylor moved to the purpose-built Eye Witness Works on Milton Street, which remained the company's home until 2018. The firm was an early adopter of Harry Brearley's revolutionary stainless steel invention in 1912, helping establish Sheffield's reputation for quality stainless cutlery. In 2018, the company relocated to modern premises with expanded production capacity. Through generations of ownership changes, the Taylor's Eye Witness brand has remained synonymous with quality British craftsmanship. The company was acquired by Harrison Fisher & Co in 1975, which formally became Taylors Eye Witness Limited in 2007. Today they continue to manufacture a 'Made in Sheffield' range while also designing and sourcing kitchen products globally. British shoppers can find Taylor's Eye Witness kitchen knives, scissors, silicone utensils, and kitchen accessories at major UK supermarkets including Ocado and Asda. Their range includes chef's knives, bread knives, carving knives, paring knives, tongs, spatulas, and kitchen gadgets. The company also distributes premium brands including Kai, SKK, and Sabatier Professional in the UK and Ireland.
