About The Lakes Distillery
The Lakes Distillery is an award-winning English distillery founded in 2011 by Paul Currie, who previously co-founded the Isle of Arran Distillery in Scotland in 1995. Nestled on the northern shore of Bassenthwaite Lake in the heart of the Lake District National Park, the distillery operates from a beautifully restored 160-year-old Victorian farmstead on the banks of the River Derwent. The distillery opened its doors to the public in 2014, with the first whisky spirit flowing from their stills on December 16th of that year. However, Currie cleverly launched "The One" in autumn 2013—the first-ever British Isles blend of whiskies from across the UK—establishing a strong reputation before production began. In 2018, their first single malt, The Lakes Malt Genesis, was released. The first bottle sold for a record-breaking £7,900 at auction, signalling the brand's premium positioning. The distillery is known particularly for its sherry-led single malt whiskies, alongside a range of popular gins, vodkas, and liqueurs. The Lakes Distillery has accumulated prestigious awards: The Whiskymaker's Reserve No.4 was named World's Best Single Malt at the World Whisky Awards in May 2022, and their Lakes Vodka was voted World's Best Vodka in 2019. Today, the product range includes The Lakes Single Malt, The One blended whisky (Fine Blend and Port Expression), Elderflower Gin Liqueur, and various other spirits crafted in the stunning Lake District setting. Grocefully helps UK shoppers compare prices on The Lakes Distillery whiskies and spirits across supermarkets.
