About The Tofoo Co
The Tofoo Co is the UK's leading tofu brand, handcrafting organic tofu in Yorkshire using traditional Japanese recipes since its founding. The company has defied wider plant-based category declines, with revenues jumping 18% to £23.9 million in 2024 on the back of a 17% rise in volumes. Every Tofoo product is made from sustainably sourced, organic, GM-free soybeans and is naturally gluten-free. The tofu is pre-pressed and ready for cooking, removing the common barrier of preparation that puts many consumers off trying tofu. Products are handmade in Malton, Yorkshire, with natural ingredients and no artificial additives. In 2025, The Tofoo Co made history by launching Naked Tempeh - the UK's first tempeh produced domestically for UK grocery retailers. The fermented soy product is crafted using just four ingredients and manufactured at their Yorkshire site, expanding options for plant-based protein seekers. The brand's success attracted German private equity firm Comitis Capital, which acquired a majority stake in August 2024 to support mainstream expansion. A new 68,000 square foot factory near the current Malton site is planned for completion in late 2026 or early 2027, reflecting continued strong demand. The Tofoo Co is available in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, and Ocado, with international expansion underway including recent listings across four major French retailers. The brand benefits from consumers' shift away from ultra-processed foods toward natural ingredient products.
