About Ulker
Ülker is Turkey's most beloved confectionery brand, founded in 1944 by brothers Sabri and Asım Ülker, whose parents had immigrated to Turkey from Crimea. What began as a small bakery in Eminönü, Istanbul, has grown into one of the world's largest confectionery companies, operating 72 factories across 14 countries and exporting to more than 100 nations worldwide. The company's first product, Ülker Pötibör (petit beurre biscuits), launched in 1944 and remains a consumer favourite to this day. A purpose-built factory opened in 1948 in the Topkapı district of Istanbul, and by 1974 Ülker had expanded into chocolate production, launching iconic products like Çokomilk and Çokonat. The 1991 release of Biskrem, the first biscuit to contain a filling, became an instant sensation. Ülker's excellence has been recognised globally, winning the Best Confectionery Company in Europe award in 2004 and acquiring a stake in premium chocolate brand Godiva in 2008. Since 2016, 51% of Ülker has been part of Pladis, the global snacking company, though the brand maintains its distinctive Turkish identity and heritage. With a portfolio of over 300 products, Ülker is a cultural touchstone in Turkey and a gateway to authentic Turkish treats for international consumers. UK shoppers can find Ülker biscuits and chocolates at supermarkets and speciality food stores.
