About Umberto Giannini
Umberto Giannini is an award-winning British hair care brand established in 1990 by the eponymous hairdresser in Kidderminster. The first salon was quickly followed by others throughout the Midlands, and the first hair care product line launched in 1998 with the iconic lipstick-shaped bottle designed by renowned Creative Director Robin Derrick. Tragically, founder Umberto Giannini died at age 32 just a year after the product launch, leaving behind a hairdressing legacy. The brand is now run by co-founder Claire Shread, with Jo Butcher as CEO and approximately 33 employees. Today there are 10 Umberto Giannini salons across the UK, including the flagship in Selfridges Birmingham and a Knightsbridge, London location. The brand's Curl Jelly is Boots' bestselling curl product and bestselling professional hair care product - the company sells one every 23 seconds. The silicone-free formula banishes frizz, adds shine without crunch, and works on wavy, curly, and coily hair textures. It's safe for colour-treated, chemically treated, relaxed hair and extensions. The Curl Jelly range includes Scrunching Jelly, Curl Jelly Wash (sulphate-free shampoo), Curl Jelly Care Conditioner, and Curl Jelly Shine Leave-In Conditioning Balm with heat protectant. The Curl Starter Kit offers perfect miniatures for trying the wash day routine. The Flowerology range features plant-based colour products including temporary colour masks and naturally kinder boxed hair colour. Umberto Giannini is B Corp certified, 100% vegan, and cruelty-free with PETA membership since 2018. The entire range is made in the UK. Many products are popular with followers of the Curly Girl method, with sulphate, silicone, and alcohol-free options available. In the UK, Umberto Giannini is sold exclusively at Boots and through the brand's own website. The brand expanded to the US in 1999 and is now also available at Target.
