About VO5
VO5 is an iconic haircare brand whose name stands for "5 Vitamin Oils"—Sunflower Seed Oil, Mango Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Rosemary Leaf Oil, and Chamomile Flower Oil. The brand was born from a unique collaboration between science and style in Culver City, California, where a chemist and hairdresser combined expertise to create products originally used to offset the harsh conditions of Hollywood sound stages. The company began as a Los Angeles beauty supply house with proprietary products founded by Blaine Culver. The house chemist was named Alberto, creating the Alberto-Culver company name. In 1955, entrepreneur Leonard H. Lavin purchased and reorganised the company for $400,000, relocating to Chicago and focusing the business on Alberto VO5 shampoo and hairdressing. By 1958, Alberto VO5 Hairdressing had become the number one brand in its category. Consumer goods giant Unilever acquired Alberto-Culver in 2010 for US$3.7 billion. While US rights were sold to High Ridge Brands, Unilever retained international rights including the UK. In the UK today, the VO5 brand is operated by TIGI Linea Corp (trading as Elida Beauty), a Unilever business. The modern VO5 UK range includes shampoos, conditioners, and an extensive styling collection featuring hairsprays, gels, waxes, mousses, and heat protection products. The brand positions itself as accessible, trend-focused haircare for creating on-trend styles at home. The 5 Vitamin Oils blend remains central to the brand's nourishing formulations. VO5 is available at UK supermarkets including Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Superdrug. Compare prices with Grocefully.
