About Whitehaven
Whitehaven is a celebrated family-owned New Zealand winery founded in 1994 by Greg and Sue White. The name beautifully combines their surname with the word "haven" - a tribute to the Marlborough Sounds where the couple sought shelter from a storm while sailing the Pacific Ocean and fell in love with the region. Celebrating 30 years in 2024, Whitehaven has grown from a small family venture into one of New Zealand's most internationally acclaimed wine producers. Located on Marlborough's famous "Golden Mile" in Rapaura, Whitehaven owns over 100 hectares of estate vineyards across all three of Marlborough's sub-regions: Wairau Valley, Southern Valleys, and Awatere Valley. This diverse terroir allows the winemaking team to craft distinctively bright and balanced Sauvignon Blanc using 100% Marlborough-sourced grapes. Chief Winemaker Peter Jackson leads a team that honours the founders' vision of quality. The winery has achieved remarkable international success, particularly in the United States where 85% of production is exported. Whitehaven was the first New Zealand wine to be included in the top 100 wines sold in US restaurants - a significant milestone for the country's wine industry. Since 2004, exports have grown from 5,000 cases to over half a million cases annually, testament to the consistent quality of their wines. Recognition continues to follow Whitehaven's dedication to excellence. Their 2023 Sauvignon Blanc was named #41 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines for 2024 - one of only four New Zealand wines on the prestigious list and the sole Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
