About Surf
Surf is a British laundry detergent brand introduced in 1952 by Crosfields of Warrington, a subsidiary of Lever Brothers, when only 1% of British households owned a washing machine. Revolutionary for its time, Surf was the first soap powder that didn't need a separate whitening agent—a major breakthrough that quickly established it as a leading washing powder brand. The brand has continuously innovated over seven decades: launching Surf Automatic for front-loading machines in the 1970s, adding revolutionary enzymes for lower temperature washing in 1986, and introducing the hugely successful '99 Stains' formula in 2002 to celebrate its golden jubilee. Between 1994 and 2001, the brand famously featured Birds of a Feather stars Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson in advertising campaigns. Today, Surf is the UK's number one fragrance detergent brand, owned by Unilever. The range is defined by its distinctive, long-lasting fragrances including Tropical Lily, Deep Sea Minerals, Coconut Bliss, Wild Lavender and Passion Bloom. Products span washing powder, liquid detergent and capsules in various pack sizes, offering effective cleaning with the added benefit of irresistible fragrance that keeps clothes smelling fresh. Whilst Unilever sold its North American Surf business in 2008, the brand remains firmly British in its European markets. Compare Surf prices across Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons and other UK supermarkets with Grocefully to find the best deals on your favourite fragrant laundry detergent.
