About Wilkinson Sword
Wilkinson Sword is a historic British brand selling razors and personal care products, founded by Henry Nock in London in 1772. Originally manufacturing guns and swords during the American Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, the company later diversified into typewriters, garden shears, scissors, and motorcycles before becoming synonymous with razors. In 1962, Wilkinson Sword revolutionised shaving by introducing stainless steel razor blades, which could be used for a week compared to carbon steel blades that rusted daily. This innovation drove rapid market share gains. The company has changed hands multiple times—from Swedish Match (1986) to Warner-Lambert (1992) to Pfizer (2000) to Energizer (2003). Since 2015, Wilkinson Sword has been part of Edgewell Personal Care, which uses the brand in Europe while Schick is used in other markets. The UK product range includes the premium Hydro system razors and budget-friendly Xtreme 3 disposables. The Hydro 5 features five carbon-coated precision blades with hydrating gel pools enriched with pro-vitamin B5 for sensitive skin protection. The Hydro 3 offers three-blade comfort at a lower price point. All Hydro blades are interchangeable across Hydro razors, lasting approximately 18 shaves. The Xtreme 3 Sensitive features flexible blades with aloe vera lubricating strips—handles now made with 35% recycled plastic. Wilkinson Sword historically manufactured in London (Chelsea and Acton), Cramlington (Northumberland) and Bridgend (Wales, gardening tools). UK razor production moved to Germany in 2000 and the Czech Republic in 2014. Compare Wilkinson Sword razors and blades at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Boots, Superdrug and Asda with Grocefully.
